Configuring Your Server for Connecting to the Internet

To prepare to access the Internet from a Windows SBS network, you first need to configure your server.

  • Before you begin, you should collect some information from your Internet service provider (ISP) about your Internet connection. For more information, see Required Information for Connecting to the Internet.
  • You can start configuring your server from the To Do List in Server Management. For more information, see Connect to the Internet.
  • It is recommended that you do not host your Internet Web site on your computer that is running Windows SBS. For recommendations about where to host an Internet Web site, see Hosting an Internet Web site.
  • You can access your Internet Information Services (IIS) server by using Server Management. For more information, see Internet Information Services.
  • You can use the Manage Internet and E-mail taskpad in Server Management to configure access to the Internet and remote access. For more information, see Manage Internet and E-mail.
  • You can run the Change IP Address Tool to change the IP address of the local network adapter of your server and to update all of the network services that use this IP address. For more information, see Understanding the Change IP Address Tool.
  • If your router can be used as a firewall and it is a UPnP certified device, you can use the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard to automatically configure your firewall settings. For more information, see Using routers that support UPnP.
