Mobile Client and Offline Use

Select Install Connection Manager to install Connection Manager on client computers. Connection Manager configures settings and provides instructions on how to connect remotely to the network.

Select Install ActiveSync 3.8 to install ActiveSync on client computers. ActiveSync enables devices such as Microsoft SmartPhone and Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition to synchronize with client computers and the computer running Windows Small Business Server.

Before users can connect remotely, you must run the Remote Access Wizard and then add the user to the Mobile User template.

To start the Remote Access Wizard

  1. Click Start, and then click Server Management.

  2. In the console tree, click Internet and E-mail. In the details pane, click Configure Remote Access.

If the Remote Access Wizard is run more than once, users will have multiple installations of Connection Manager on their client computer. If there are multiple installations, delete all but one.

To add a user to the Mobile User template

  1. If you are using the Add User Wizard, click Back to return to the UserTemplates page.

  2. Select the Mobile User template.

Or, after completing the Set Up Computer Wizard,

  1. Click Start, and then click Server Management.
  2. In the console pane, click Users, and then in the details pane, click Change User Permissions. The Change User Permissions Wizard appears.
  3. Click a user name, click Add, and then click Next.
  4. On the Template Selection page, click Mobile User Template, and then click Next.
  5. Click Finish.
