Create a distribution list

Using Server Management

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Admins security group.

  1. Open Server Management. To open Server Management, click Start, and then click Server Management.
  2. In the console tree, click Distribution Groups.
  3. In the details pane, click Add a Distribution Group.
  4. Follow the steps in the Add Distribution Group Wizard.

Using Server Management for Power Users

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Power Users security group.

  1. Open Server Management for Power Users. To open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, and then click Server Management. If you are a member of the Domain Admins group and want to open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, click Run, and then type: %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Administration\mysbsconsole.msc
  2. Click Groups, and then click Add a Distribution Group.
  3. Follow the steps in the Add Distribution Group Wizard.

Using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

You can also create a distribution list by using Outlook 2003.

From the client computer:

  1. Open Outlook 2003. To open Outlook 2003, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Outlook.
  2. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Distribution List.
  3. In the Name box, type a name.
  4. Click Select Members.
  5. In the Show names from the list, click the address book that contains the e-mail addresses that you want to put in your distribution list.
  6. In the Type name or select from list box, type a name that you want to include. In the list, select the name, and then click Members. Do this for each user that you want to add to the distribution list, and then click OK.
    If you want to add a longer description for the distribution list, click the Notes tab, and then type the description.
    The distribution list is saved in your Contacts folder.

Assign a manager to the distribution list

After creating a distribution list, assign a manager for it. Using Outlook 2003, the manager can make membership changes to the distribution list without your help.

Using Server Management

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Admins security group.

  1. Open Server Management. To open Server Management, click Start, and then click Server Management.
  2. In the console tree, click Distribution Groups.
  3. In the details pane, right-click the distribution list that you want to assign a manager to, and then select Properties.
  4. On the Managed By tab, click Change, and then type the name of the user that you want to manage the distribution list.

Using Server Management for Power Users

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Power Users security group.

  1. Open Server Management for Power Users. To open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, and then click Server Management. If you are a member of the Domain Admins group and want to open Server Management for Power Users, click Start, click Run, and then type: %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Administration\mysbsconsole.msc
  2. Click Groups, right-click the distribution list that you want to assign a manager to, and then select Properties.
  3. On the Managed By tab, click Change, and then type the name of the user that you want to manage the distribution list.
