On the Advanced Client Computer Settings page, you can accept default settings or deselect these settings (by clearing the check box next to each) and configure them manually on the client computer.

For more information on how Windows Small Business Server 2003 configures these settings, click each of the following items.

Internet Explorer Settings

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is configured to use Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 as a proxy server if ISA is installed by Windows Small Business Server.

The following features are configured:

  • Home Page. Client computers are configured to point to My Company (https://companyweb/).
  • Favorites. By default, the Favorites menu contains links to a number of useful internal Web sites.

Outlook Profile Settings

Windows Small Business Server configures Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 to use Exchange Server  2003 in profiles set up for new users. These profiles specify Exchange server connections and define account information. If the client computer contains existing profiles, Windows Small Business Server adds Exchange server and sets the new profile as the default.

Fax mail transport is also configured, which enables users to send faxes from Outlook or other mail applications.

If you specify that the client computer will be used remotely, Outlook is configured to manually synchronize offline folders.

Desktop Settings

Windows Small Business Server creates shortcuts and links in the My Network Places folder.

Fax Printer

A fax printer is configured on the client computer and is set up to connect to the network's fax server.

Printers

Windows Small Business Server adds a printer published in Active Directory to client computers running Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional. This printer becomes the default printer for the client computer, unless a local printer is attached to the client computer or more than one printer exists in Active Directory. In these situations, a default printer is not specified.

Fax Configuration Information

Windows Small Business Server stores information about fax configuration and deploys necessary information to client computers. For example, the fax cover page is preconfigured with sender information, so users do not need to retype the information each time they send a fax.

Remote Desktop

Windows Small Business Server enables Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance for client computers.

Remote Desktop enables users to access a session on one computer from another computer in a different location. For example, users can connect to their work computer from home and have access to all of their applications, files, and network resources.

Remote Assistance enables users to invite another user to connect to their computer and help them solve problems.
