Switching between virtual machines and the host operating system

Switching between virtual machines and the host operating system

There are two situations in which it may not be clear how to switch from a virtual machine to the host operating system. Following are descriptions of each situation and how to navigate out of the virtual machine:

Before installing Virtual Machine Additions: Before you install Virtual Machine Additions in the guest operating system, the mouse will appear to be stuck in the virtual machine window when using Remote Control view from the Administration Website. To move the cursor out of the virtual machine window, press the Host key while moving the mouse. By default, the Host key is the right Alt key. After you install Virtual Machine Additions, you can move the mouse out of the virtual machine window without using the Host key. For instructions on installing Virtual Machine Additions, see Install Virtual Machine Additions.

With the VMRC client: When you are using the Virtual Machine Remote Control client in full-screen mode, use the HOST KEY+ENTER keyboard shortcut to switch the virtual machine display to a window. By default, the Host key is the right ALT key. For more information about VMRC, see Using the VMRC client to access virtual machines.
