At Course Completion

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the SFU components and explain how they enable integration of Windows NT and UNIX.

  • Install SFU components on a computer running Windows NT 4.0.

  • On a UNIX server running the network file system (NFS), make file systems available to computers running Windows NT 4.0.

  • Configure a computer running Windows NT 4.0 as an NFS server for UNIX NFS clients.

  • Synchronize UNIX passwords with Windows NT 4.0 passwords.

  • Use Telnet services to connect or allow connections from computers running Windows NT or UNIX.

  • Use UNIX command-line utilities and UNIX scripting in a UNIX shell on a computer running Windows NT 4.0.

Prerequisites

Before beginning this course, students should have:

  • For file sharing and user administration:

    • Familiarity with administration of Windows NT users and groups, domain controllers, services, and file systems

    • Familiarity with security mechanisms in Windows NT and UNIX

    • Familiarity with UNIX NFS terminology and concepts

  • For all SFU components:

    • Experience supporting multiple users on UNIX network computers

    • Basic knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) functionality on both UNIX and Windows NT

The course materials, lectures, and lab exercises are in English. To benefit fully from our instruction, students need an understanding of the English language and completion of the prerequisites.
