Using Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on IIS 7

This topic describes what steps to take to install Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services 3.0 on IIS 7. Windows SharePoint Services will automatically configure any IIS 7 modules it requires during the Windows SharePoint Services installation. Windows SharePoint Services offers new features and enhancements to help you deploy and maintain Windows SharePoint Services solutions and provide better control over information resources. This includes the ability to extend multiple IIS Web sites using Host Header mode to have Host Header-based site collections on multiple applications. The following table describes the purpose of some of the IIS modules that are required for a Windows SharePoint Services Web server.

Provides infrastructure to manage the Windows SharePoint Services server logs and automate common logging tasks. |
Request Monitor |
Provides infrastructure to monitor the Windows SharePoint Services site health. |
Windows Authentication |
Performs NTLM integrated authentication. |
Basic Authentication |
Performs Basic authentication. |
Anonymous Authentication |
Performs Anonymous authentication when no other authentication method succeeds. |
IIS 6.0 Metabase Compatibility |
Allows the use of existing IIS 6.0 APIs and scripts to manage the IIS 7 Web server. |
