Internet Messaging

This section provides information about the basic concepts and features used in Message Queuing to provide Internet-messaging support. Message Queuing sends messages over HTTP transport to URL-named queues. This version of Message Queuing provides Internet-messaging support with the following features:

  • For an overview of Internet messaging, see Internet Messaging Overview.

  • Message Queuing provides messaging over HTTP as an optional transport protocol. For more information, see HTTP/HTTPS messages.

  • HTTPS provides access control and authentication when messaging with HTTP. For more information, see HTTPS Authentication.

  • When messages are sent over HTTP transport, external logical names or aliases can be mapped to internal physical queue locations, protecting internal resources and providing a solution for messaging through firewalls. For more information, see HTTP Message Redirection.

  • HTTP messages are formatted using the SOAP Reliable Messaging Protocol (SRMP) extensions of the SOAP protocol. To read more about the Message Queuing implementation of the SOAP protocol, see SRMP Messages.
