By default, Internet Explorer Maintenance (IEM) is in non-Preference Mode. To change IEM to Preference Mode, do the following steps.
You must be a member of the Administrators group to work with IEM and Group Policy objects (GPOs).
Note
If you choose Preference Mode, you cannot revert back to non-Preference Mode without first clicking Reset Browser Options on the right-click menu. However, if you do this, you will lose all of the browser-related settings you configured in IEM.
Not all items in IEM can be configured using Preference Mode. When IEM is in Preference Mode, the text (Preference Mode) appears next to the items that can be configured.
In Group Policy, double-click <GPO_name> Policy, double-click User Configuration, and then double-click Windows Settings.
Right-click Internet Explorer Maintenance, and then click Preference Mode.
To open IEM, see Open IEM.
To learn more about modes in IEM, see the IEM technical reference at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=67682.
