Edit Application Properties (IIS 7)

After you add an application, you may have to change the application properties that you specified during creation. For example, you may have a problematic application that you want to isolate in a separate application pool or you may want to change the physical location of the application content on the Web server.

You can use the All Properties dialog box from the Applications page to change the following application properties:

  • Application pool

  • Enabled protocols

  • Logon method

  • Path password

  • Path user name

  • Physical path

  • Virtual path

Prerequisites

Exceptions to feature requirements

  • Only server administrators can add and edit applications.

To edit Web application properties

You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.

User Interface

To use the UI

  1. Open IIS Manager. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7).

  2. In the Connections pane, expand the Sites node and click to select the site in which your application runs.

  3. In the Actions pane, click View Applications.

  4. On the Applications feature page, select an application from the list and then click Advanced Settings in the Actions pane.

  5. On the Advanced Settings dialog box, update the application properties as you want and click OK.

Command Line

To change an application's properties, use the following syntax:

**appcmd set app /app.name:**string **/attribute:**value

The variable app.namestring is the virtual path application that you want to change. The variable attribute is the attribute that you want to change, and value is the value that you want the attribute to have.

For a list of attributes available for configuration, use the following syntax:

**appcmd set app /app.name:**string /?

For example, to enable the HTTP and HTTPS protocols for an application named marketing in a site named contoso, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

appcmd set app /app.name:contoso/marketing /enabledProtocols:http,https
