A Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) is a network service that accepts requests for tickets from Kerberos clients, validates their identity, and grants tickets to them.

Resolve

Restart the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) service

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To restart the Key Distribution Center (KDC) service:

  1. Log on to the domain controller on which the issue is occurring.
  2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. Right-click Kerberos Key Distribution Center, and then click Restart.
  5. Confirm that Started is displayed in the Status column for the service named Kerberos Key Distribution Center.
  6. Close the Services snap-in console.
  7. If the Kerberos KDC service does not restart, you should restart the computer.

Verify

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the Key Distribution Center (KDC) service is running and operating correctly:

  1. Log on to a domain controller.
  2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. Confirm that Started is displayed in the Status column for the service named Kerberos Key Distribution Center.
  5. If the Kerberos KDC service is started, the KDC service is operating correctly.
