Event Details

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1012
Source: NfsServer
Version: 6.0
Symbolic Name: ERR_NFS_INIT_AUDIT_LOG_FAILED
Message: Windows(R) failed a request to initialize the audit log. Server for NFS cannot record audits. Without audit logging, users will still be able to access files through Server for NFS, but their actions will not be recorded. Windows may be low on system resources. Try increasing available system resources by closing programs.

Resolve

Free system resources

Increase available system resources by closing all programs and stopping unnecessary services.

Note: To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To stop a service:

  1. Open the Services snap-in by clicking the Start button, Control Panel, and Administrative Tools, then double-clicking Services.
  2. In the details pane of the Services snap-in, right-click on the name of the service you want to stop and select Stop.

Verify

To verify that Server for NFS is properly configured for activity logging:

  1. Open a command prompt with elevated privileges. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Type nfsadmin server.
  3. Verify that the Audit Log File Name field displays the correct location of your log file.
