Description
Stores the location of the file containing categories for the events generated by the source program. Typically, event categories are included in the dynamic-link library (DLL) or executable file for the source program.
The data in the category message file associates events with categories. The category classifies the event, usually by identifying the component or function that generated the event. Each source program can define its own categories and associate them with events. The category of an event is displayed in the Category column in Event Viewer.
Notes
The same file can be used as the value of the EventMessageFile, CategoryMessageFile, and ParameterMessageFile entries.
If CategoryMessageFile appears in the registry, the CategoryCount entry is required.
