Documenting the Forest Design Requirements

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

The design team must document the isolation and autonomy requirements for service and data administration for each group in the organization that intends to use Active Directory. The team must also note any areas of limited connectivity that might affect the deployment of Active Directory.

For a worksheet to assist you in documenting your forest design requirements, see "Forest Design Requirements" (DSSLOGI_2.doc) on the Windows Server 2003 Deployment Kit companion CD (or see "Forest Design Requirements" on the Web at https://www.microsoft.com/reskit).

Example: Documenting the Forest Design Requirements

The Pharmaceuticals group of Contoso Corporation needs to keep their data confidential; therefore, they require complete administrative control over their information. They need to write a justification so that the design team understands their administrative requirements.

Figure 2.7 shows the forest design requirements worksheet that the design team created in conjunction with the Pharmaceuticals group.
