Extending the Active Directory Domain Services Schema

Applies To: Windows Server 2003 R2

The typical Windows Server 2003 R2 installation on a domain controller provides the necessary extension of the Active Directory Domain Services schema. No additional extension is required to authenticate Network File System users. However, unless Server for NIS is installed, the Active Directory Domain Services tabs for editing UNIX attributes are not visible. You can still assign UNIX attributes to users programmatically or by using Active Directory Security Interfaces (ADSI) Edit.
