Restore Windows Time service on local computer to default settings

Use this procedure to restore the Windows Time service on the local computer to the default settings.

Administrative Credentials

To perform this procedure on the local computer, you must be a member of the Administrators group. To perform this procedure on a remote computer, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group.

To restore Windows Time service on local computer to default settings

  1. Open a Command Prompt.

  2. Type the following command and then press ENTER:

    net stop w32time

  3. Type the following command and then press ENTER:

    w32tm /unregister

  4. Type the following command and then press ENTER:

    w32tm /register

  5. Type the following command and then press ENTER:

    net start w32time

To resolve this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then, click Run in the File Download dialog box.

Note

This wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note

If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD so that you can run it on the computer that has the problem. If you do not want to use the automatic fix, you can do it yourself by performing the steps in the procedure above.
