You must install and enable Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0

To install Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Update Services, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 must be installed and enabled. To continue, install and/or enable BITS 2.0, and then rerun Setup.

For more information about how to obtain and install BITS 2.0, search the Microsoft Support Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=992) for KB article 842773, "An update package that includes BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 is available for Windows Server 2003, for Windows XP, and for Windows 2000."

If you have BITS 2.0 installed but disabled, enable it by completing the following steps:

To enable the BITS 2.0 service

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

  2. In Services, double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

  3. In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties dialog, choose Automatic for the Startup type, and then click Start.

  4. Click OK to close the Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties dialog.
