The Group Policy settings for Windows Vista Firewall are not applied after I upgrade a client computer from Windows XP to Windows Vista

Cause: The Group Policy settings specific to Windows Vista are not yet applied, and the gpupdate /force command does not force the update.

Solution: To force the Group Policy settings to be applied, either run gpupdate /force from a command prompt with elevated privileges or restart the client computer.

To run gpupdate /force from the command prompt with elevated privileges
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Accessories.

  2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  3. Accept the User Account Control prompt.

  4. In the Command Prompt window, type gpupdate /force.
