The Exchange 2003 Management Pack extends the capabilities of Microsoft Operations Manager by providing specialized monitoring for servers running Exchange 2003. This Management Pack includes a definition of health for an Exchange 2003 Server and will raise an alert to the administrator if it detects a state which requires intervention.

The Exchange Server health definitions were developed by Microsoft Exchange subject matter experts – providing an extremely comprehensive view of factors that needs to be taken into consideration to run a healthy Exchange system – resulting in significantly increased availability of Exchange servers monitored using this management pack. To aid in resolving issues detected by Management Pack, the alerts received by the administrator contain knowledge summarizing the condition and enumerating the steps required to investigate and resolve the issue.

The Exchange 2003 Management Pack includes monitoring of a broad range of events and performance counters, and employs an ensemble of Exchange-specific scripts. The breadth of monitoring provided by this Management Pack provides the greatest possible level of preemptive intervention.

Administrators can watch the health and utilization of their Exchange servers using the set of alert and graphical views and reports provided with the Management Pack.

All of this is designed to efficiently run an Exchange deployment with the highest possible availability.
