In the past, Microsoft Exchange Server benchmarks based on the MAPI protocol, with the LoadSim tool, have been measured using the Medium Messaging Benchmark (MMB).

The MMB2 workload, for LoadSim 2000, is a modification of the previous MMB workload. It is designed to reflect the significantly higher peak load on an Exchange 2000 Server. A peak load runs for the entire length of the test. This workload achieves the following:

  • Uses the Microsoft Outlook client.

  • Increases the amount of mail sent and received.

  • Increases the size and frequency of attachments.

  • Increases the number of distribution lists.

  • Adds Microsoft PowerPoint attachments.

  • Allows for users who log on and off a number of times during the course of a day.

The average message size is 74.9 kilobyte (KB), compared to 14.6 KB for the LoadSim "Medium User". The average number of messages sent during an eight-hour day is increased from 14 to 51. The average messages received during the eight-hour day is increased from 66 to 185.

The following tables have a complete comparison of the MMB2 workload to the MMB, or medium, workload.
