OFFICIAL RULES

CHALLENGE DESCRIPTION:

No purchase necessary. The "Microsoft TechNet Tips for Techies Challenge" ("the Challenge") is conducted online. Send us your favorite tips on troubleshooting, optimizing, saving time, or similar topics, and we'll share them with others right here. If your tip is selected, we'll publish it with your byline. Before joining in, be sure to check our privacy statement.

The Challenge opens at 11:59 PM PST on October 15, 2001, and closes at 11:59 PM PST on December 31, 2002.

  1. ELIGIBILITY / ENTRY PERIODS:

    No purchase necessary. The Challenge is open to computer technology workers who are residents of the 50 United States, District of Columbia or Canada 18 years of age or older at the time of entry

    Employees of Microsoft, their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies and anyone working directly on this program, product or promotion, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible to participate. Void in Quebec and where prohibited by law.

  2. HOW TO PLAY:

    There is no fee to register, enter or win. The Challenge consists of each tip that is published on the website will receive a free TechNet Mug. To enter, complete the registration form (consisting of mailing address and name via e-mail when content is submitted). There is no fee to register, enter or win. Microsoft assumes no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected or illegible entries, or for any computer, on-line, telephone, human error or technical malfunctions that may occur. All entries become the property of Microsoft and will not be returned.

  3. PRIZES:

    Mugs will be sent out to those participants whose Tips are published on the website.

    No substitution or transfer of prizes/gift permitted, except that Microsoft reserves the right to substitute a prize/gift of equal or greater value if an advertised prize/gift is unavailable. Return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Taxes on prizes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner.

  4. GENERAL CONDITIONS:

    By participating in this Challenge, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and by the decisions of the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Microsoft, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Challenge or any prize won. Submission of false or inaccurate information and/or failure to comply with these official rules will result in disqualification. Prizewinners will be notified by e-mail or regular mail within seven (7) days after the end of the promotion. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Microsoft to use winner's name and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation unless prohibited by law. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Microsoft, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Challenge or any prize won. Winners will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability/Publicity release. Failure to return the required documentation within five days following attempted notification will result in disqualification. Return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable may also result in disqualification. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

  5. INTERNET:

    Microsoft assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communication line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alteration of applicant's entries. Microsoft is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Microsoft on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to applicant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Challenge. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN APPLICANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, MICROSOFT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH APPLICANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. If for any reason the Challenge is not capable of running as planned for any reason including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, fraud, technical failure or any other reason affecting the security or integrity of the Challenge, Microsoft reserves the right to cancel, modify or suspend the Challenge and to disqualify any individual found tampering with the entry process.

    The winners' list will be posted on the TechNet Web site.
