Rename an ISAPI Filter (IIS 7)

Rename an ISAPI filter when you have to change the name, such as to better describe the filter's purpose.

To rename an ISAPI filter

You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.

User Interface

To use the UI

  1. Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).

  2. In Features View, on the server or siteHome page, double-click ISAPI Filters.

  3. On the ISAPI Filters page, select the ISAPI filter that you want to rename.

  4. In the Actions pane, click Rename.

Note

You can only rename ISAPI filters that have an Entry Type of Local.

  1. Type a new name for the ISAPI filter, and then click outside the box.

Command Line

To edit an ISAPI filter, use the following syntax:

appcmd set config /section:isapiFilters /[name='string'].name*:string*

The first instance of variable namestring is the name of the ISAPI filter that you want to edit. The second instance of variable namestring is the new name that you want the ISAPI filter to have. For example, to rename an ISAPI filter from ResponseFilter to RewriteResponseFilter, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

appcmd set config /section:isapiFilters /[name='ResponseFilter'].name:RewriteResponseFilter
