Windows Deployment Services uses the Windows Imaging (WIM) format for creating images. The Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK) provides a robust tool set for managing Windows images. These tools allow you to add files, folders, drivers and most importantly, security updates, to your Windows images without having to rebuild the reference image.
