To complete this procedure, you need the appropriate administrative credentials for the affected Removable Storage item. To maintain system security, rather than logging on as an administrator, log on as a user without administrative credentials and then run Removable Storage with administrative credentials.

To run Removable Storage with administrative credentials

  1. Open a command prompt with administrative credentials. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then point to Run as administrator.

  2. Provide administrative credentials for an account in the Administrators group and click Submit. A command prompt with administrative credentials opens.

  3. At the command prompt, type mmc.exe.

Inventory a library

To inventory a library

  1. In Removable Storage, double-click Libraries.

  2. Right-click the library you want to inventory, and then click Inventory.

Additional considerations

  • This procedure applies only to automated libraries.

  • The type of inventory performed will be the default for that library.

  • An inventory is automatically performed each time a library door has been accessed.

  • The inventory is performed according to the default inventory method: Fast, Full, or None.
