Editing Global MIME Types

If you need to make changes to global MIME types, you can edit them at the global level in IIS.

Procedures

Important

You must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer to perform the following procedure or procedures. As a security best practice, log on to your computer by using an account that is not in the Administrators group, and then use the runas command to run IIS Manager as an administrator. At a command prompt, type runas /user:Administrative_AccountName "mmc %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc".

To edit a global MIME type

  1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the computer on which you want to edit a MIME type, and click Properties.

  2. Click MIME Types.

  3. Select the item you want to edit from the Registered MIME types (file extensions) list.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. Edit the information in the Extension and MIME type boxes as necessary.

  6. Click OK.
