Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0, running on Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003, helps provide a secure, reliable, and easily managed application server on which you can host sites over an intranet, the Internet, or an extranet. IIS helps you create a platform of dynamic network applications, allowing you to use the latest Web standards to develop, implement, and manage your Web applications.
To match the needs of your applications to your server, IIS offers an adjustable architecture that allows you to isolate applications within a self-contained worker process. The new process model helps prevent one application or Web site from stopping another and reduces the time that you spend restarting services to maintain the health of your server. If health issues arise, IIS helps you manage them, usually without restarting your Web server or affecting your users.
