Logging remote access connections

You can enable logging to automatically record configuration and activity details of remote access connections. If you enable logging, you can review connection errors and pertinent connection information in a log file. This option is especially helpful when you need to determine why a remote access connection failed. If a connection fails, you can generate a diagnostic report based on the log file and send the report to a support engineer.

If you enable logging, you can view a diagnostic report, save the report to a file, or send the report to an e-mail address that you specify. You can also clear previous logs so that the report contains details of the most recent connection only. If you do not need detailed connection information but want to run the report more quickly, you can generate a summary report that contains configuration and installation information only. You can use this information to troubleshoot configurations.

If you do not enable logging and a connection fails, you are prompted to enable logging. After you enable logging, you can dial the remote access connection again to log errors for the failed connection.
