Configuring NNTP Virtual Server Properties

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 with SP1

The NNTP virtual server properties dialog box in IIS Manager allows you to configure many different settings for your virtual server, including access control, logging, newsgroup limits, and security. Use the General tab to set the IP address and, optionally, the port number for the NNTP virtual server. You can also set connection limits and time-outs, specify a path header, and enable logging. Auditing server activity with log files is a good way to detect if unauthorized external users are attempting to access your virtual server or if internal users are trying to access resources that they do not have authority to access. Use the Settings tab for management tasks, such as enabling moderated newsgroups and control messages. For more information, see Creating and Managing Newsgroups. Use the Access, Settings, and Security tabs to configure security-related settings. For more information about setting properties that affect security, see Securing NNTP Virtual Servers.

For a detailed description of each property on every Properties tab and for more information about logging, see Configuring NNTP Virtual Servers.
