Change the library media type

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To change the library media type

  1. Open Removable Storage.

  2. In the console tree, double-click Libraries.

  3. Right-click the library you want to change, and then click Properties.

  4. In the libraryProperties dialog box, click the Media tab, and then click Change.

  5. In the Change Media Types dialog box, do the following:

    • To add a new media type, in Available types, click the entry you want to add, and then click Add.

    • To remove an existing media type, in Selected types, click the entry you want to remove, and then click Remove.

    • Repeat these steps as necessary.

Notes

  • To complete this procedure, you need the appropriate administrative credentials for the affected Removable Storage item. To maintain system security, rather than logging in as an administrator, log in as a user without administrative credentials, and run Removable Storage as an administrator by right-clicking the Computer Management icon, clicking Run As, and choosing an account in the local Administrators group.

  • To open Removable Storage, click Start and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, double-click Storage and then click Removable Storage.

Information about functional differences
