System Requirements: VMM Library Server
Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1
For System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) 2008 or VMM 2008 R2, the following are estimated system requirements for adding a VMM library server on a dedicated computer. If your computer does not meet the minimum requirements, you cannot install this component.
When you install the VMM server, Setup automatically adds the computer as the default library server, with a default library share. After setup is complete, you can add library shares to the default library server or add other library servers on separate computers. However, you cannot move or remove the default library server or the default library share.
Note
For better performance, when you are managing more than 150 hosts, it is recommended that you add one or more remote computers as library servers and that you do not use the default library share on the VMM server.
The minimum and recommended hardware requirements for a VMM library server vary depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to, the quantity and size of the following files that will be stored on the library server:
Virtual machine templates
Virtual hard disks
Virtual floppy disks
ISO images
Scripts
Hardware profiles
Guest operating system profiles
Stored virtual machines

Windows Remote Management (WinRM) 1.1 or 2.0 |
WinRM 1.1 is included in Windows Server 2008, and by default, the WinRM service is set to start automatically. WinRM 2.0 is included in Windows Server 2008 R2, and by default, the WinRM service is set to start automatically (delayed start).
For Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 R2, you must install this software from the following site: WS-Management v1.1 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=84599). Note For Windows Server 2003 R2, if you have previously enabled WinRM by using the Management and Monitoring Tools components group in Add/Remove Windows Components, it will not work with VMM. You must disable WinRM and then install the version of this software indicated here, which overwrites your existing version. |
