Manage Computers by using Windows SBS Console

Windows SBS 2008 allows you to manage all the servers and computers on the network through the Windows SBS Console. In Windows SBS Console, on the Network tab, Computers displays the computers' related administrative tasks.

The following table lists the computer management tasks that are available in Windows SBS Console and their descriptions. Some of the tasks are displayed only when a server or a computer is selected.

Available server or client computer administrative tasks

Task Name Description

View server properties

Opens the ServerName Properties page. This task is displayed when the server is selected.

Go to Backup

Displays the Backup tab in Windows SBS Console. This task is displayed when the server is selected and the server backup is not successful.

View computer alerts

Displays a summary page that lists all the alerts for the selected computer. This task is displayed when a computer that is selected shows an OK status in the Other Alert column.

View computer properties

Opens the ComputerName Properties page and allows you to view or edit properties for the selected computer.

Offer Remote Assistance

Allows you to offer remote assistance for the selected computer. This task is displayed when a client computer is selected.

Connect to a computer by using Terminal Services

Allows you to start a Terminal Services session with the selected computer. This task is displayed when you select a server that is not running Windows SBS 2008 or a client computer.

Go to Security

Displays the Security tab in Windows SBS Console. This task is displayed when a client computer whose shows Warning or Critical in the Security Status column.

Go to Updates

Displays the Updates tab in Windows SBS Console. This task is displayed when the client computer that is selected has software updates that are missing.

Remove ComputerName

Removes the selected computer from the network. This task is displayed when a client computer is selected.

Connect computers to your network

Starts the Connect computers to your network wizard, which describes two methods for connecting a computer to the network.

Enable Power Management in Windows Vista

Enables Power Management for all computers in the network running Windows Vista®.

Note
If you enable Power Management in Windows Vista, network users cannot access a computer running Windows Vista when it is in Sleep or Hibernate mode.

Disable Power Management in Windows Vista

Disables Power Management for all computers in the network running Windows Vista.

View notification settings

Enables you to do the following:

  • Select the services for which you want to receive notification e-mails.

  • Select the performance counters for which you want to receive notification e-mails.

  • Select the event log errors for which you want to receive notification e-mails.

  • Specify an e-mail address to send notifications to.

Purchase additional client access licenses

Launches a Web site that provides an overview on licensing and includes information about how to purchase additional licenses.
