User Rights

This topic lists and explains the rights you can assign to users by using operations in Owsadm.exe and Owsrmadm.exe. Each user right is listed by the name that appears in HTML Administration pages. The name used to identify the right for the command-line tools is listed in a table, along with a list of which roles the user right is included in by default and any other rights that are dependent on the specified user right.

Author Lists

Grants permission to add new content to an existing list. SharePoint™ Team Services only; not available with Microsoft® FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Author Pages

Grants permission to create, edit, or delete HTML pages and/or directories. Note that this right allows users to apply a theme, link a style sheet, or apply a border to a page in a Web site. This right also allows users to delete views, such as those used for lists.

Author Web Document Discussions

Grants permission to participate in discussions. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Border Web

Grants permission to apply a border to a Web site.

Browse

Grants permission to browse pages in the Web site, including pages with FrontPage components (Web bots).

Close Web Document Discussions

Grants permission to mark discussion items as "resolved". SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Configure Access

Grants permission to create, delete, and modify roles, including adding users to the roles and specifying which rights are assigned to a role.

Create Accounts

Grants permission to create local machine accounts (potentially necessary to give new users access to a Web site).

Design Lists

Grants permission to create or design new or existing lists. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Link Style Sheets

Grants permission to apply a style sheet to the entire Web site.

Manage Lists

Grants permission to add, edit, or remove lists, irrespective of the per-list properties. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Manage Server Health

Grants permission to run the server health features for a virtual server.

Manage Subweb

Grants permission to create, rename, or remove subwebs. Note that in order to delete a subweb, the user must have permissions on the subweb itself and on the root Web site.

Manage Usage Analysis

Grants permission to modify the usage analysis settings for a virtual server. Note that any user who can open the Web site in FrontPage 2002 can run the usage analysis reports.

Manage Web Document Discussions

Grants permission to add, edit, remove, and resolve discussion items for a virtual server. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Manage Web Subscriptions

Grants permission to add, edit, or remove subscriptions for a virtual server. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Recalc Web

Grants permission to recalculate a Web site.

Set Source Control

Grants permission to set the source control database.

Subscribe To Document

Grants permission to subscribe to documents using Web subscriptions. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

Theme Web

Grants permission to apply a theme to a Web site.

View Lists

Grants permission to read lists. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.

View Web Document Discussions

Grants permission to read Web document discussion items. SharePoint Team Services only; not available with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.
