If you are a manager, you need to specify the URL for the Microsoft® Project Central server from within Microsoft Project. Resources will use the URL you specify to access and update Microsoft Project Central information, and the URL can be sent to them automatically when you send TeamAssign, TeamStatus, or TeamUpdate messages.

To set up a Microsoft Project Central Account

  1. In Microsoft Project, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Workgroup tab.

  2. In the Default Workgroup Messages list, click Web.

  3. In the Microsoft Project Central Server URL box, type the URL for the Microsoft Project Central Server.

  4. Under Identification for Microsoft Project Central Server, choose an identification method:

    • To use your Windows user account to identify yourself to the Microsoft Project Central server, click Windows user account. All the workgroup messages you send will display the user account you used to log on to the network.

    • To use a user name set up in Microsoft Project to identify yourself to the server, click Microsoft Project user name. All the workgroup messages you send will display your user name as it appears on the General tab of the Options dialog box (Tools menu).

  5. To perform work on the server (such as customizing Microsoft Project Central or creating reports for your team) without first having to send a workgroup message, click Create Account.

Note: This step is optional. An account does need to be created for you before you can work with Microsoft Project Central, but it is created automatically the first time you send a workgroup message. Perform this step only if you want to work with Microsoft Project Central without first sending a workgroup message.

  6. To have Microsoft Project send an e-mail message containing the URL for Microsoft Project Central to workgroup members each time a workgroup message is sent, select the Send hyperlink in E-mail note check box.

Note: You can use this feature only if all the members of your workgroup use an e-mail system.

  7. To allow a resource to delegate tasks to another resource in the same project, select the Allow resources to delegate tasks in Microsoft Project Central check box.

  8. To automatically send updated project summary information, such as the project start and finish date, from the project plan to Microsoft Project Central, select the Update project information to Microsoft Project Central server after every save check box. This option makes the information available through Microsoft Project Central views.
