Getting Started with Windows Essential Business Server

Windows® Essential Business Server is a Microsoft® server solution for network environments with up to 300 client computers or user accounts. Windows EBS provides tightly integrated wizards to improve the planning and deployment of the server components and facilitate best practices for networking, security, and remote access.

The tabbed pages of the Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console present a unified view of important network services and resources. Using the Windows EBS Administration Console, you can monitor computers and security components on the network, manage user and group accounts, and manage client access licenses.

To respond to monitoring alerts, you can access the appropriate tools and consoles directly from the Windows EBS Administration Console.

Windows EBS is deployed across three servers. Each server delivers important workloads for the network:

  • Windows® Essential Business Server Management Server – Consolidates monitoring and management functions of the network and runs key roles and services in the environment.

  • Windows® Essential Business Server Security Server – Manages edge security for the network, including Internet access and remote access.

  • Windows® Essential Business Server Messaging Server – Provides messaging capabilities, and manages additional network services.
