Configure Ports for Remote Access

A server running Routing and Remote Access treats the installed networking equipment as a series of devices and ports.

  • A device represents hardware or software that can create physical or logical point-to-point connections.

  • A port is a communication channel that can support a single point-to-point connection.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).

To configure ports for remote access

  1. Open Routing and Remote Access.

  2. In the console tree, right-click Ports.

    Where?

    • Routing and Remote Access/server name/Ports

  3. Click Properties.

  4. In the Ports Properties dialog box, click a device, and then click Configure.

  5. In the Configure Device dialog box, do one or more of the following:

    • To enable remote access, select the Remote access connections (inbound only) check box.

    • To enable demand-dial routing, select the Demand-dial routing connections (inbound and outbound) check box.
