Windows Search System Requirements

The minimum system requirements to run Windows® Search 4.0 are listed in the following table:

  • 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows® Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher

  • 64-bit versions of Windows® Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher

  • 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher

  • 64-bit versions of Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher

  • Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2)

  • 64-bit versions of Windows Server™ 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher

  • Windows® Home Server

  • Windows Server™ 2008

Note
Windows Terminal Services must be running on Windows® XP. (This is the default configuration for Windows, but some security scenarios lock down this service.)

Processor

A Pentium 500 megahertz (MHz) processor or better (a Pentium 1 gigahertz (GHz) processor is recommended)

Memory

A minimum of 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM (512 MB of RAM is recommended)

Hard disk space

500 MB of hard disk space recommended

Note

Your index size depends on the amount of content you are indexing. Typically, the index will account for 10-12% of the data it is indexing.

Display

1024 x 768 screen resolution recommended

E-mail indexing

Microsoft Outlook® XP or Outlook® Express 6.0 (or later versions)

Note

Outlook® XP must be in Corporate or Workgroup mode. Outlook® 2003 and 2007 are recommended to be in cached mode.

Note

Outlook® Express items cannot be indexed on 64-bit operating systems.
