Specify protocol and ports
Use this wizard page to specify which protocol and which port, or ports, Windows Firewall with Advanced Security will match and act upon. Windows Firewall with Advanced Security inspects the inbound packets (for inbound firewall rules) and outbound packets (for outbound firewall rules) and matches the protocol and port information in the packet with firewall rules. If all other rule criteria match, Windows Firewall with Advanced Security then takes the action that you specify on the Action page.
Protocol
Use this to select which protocol Windows Firewall with Advanced Security will match. You can specify either the TCP or UDP protocol, but not both.
Port
Use this to specify which port, or ports, Windows Firewall with Advanced Security will match. For an inbound rule, the port is the port on the local computer. You can specify that All local ports will match or you can specify one or more Specific local ports by using a comma-delimited list.
Note
If you select the Port rule type for an outbound rule, the Protocol and Ports page only enables you to specify the local port. To specify the remote port in an outbound rule, use the Custom option on the Rule Type page of the wizard.
Adjusting these settings after creating the firewall rule
You can also adjust these settings in the Firewall Rule Properties dialog box in the Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules nodes. To change the protocol and port, use the Protocols and Ports tab.
Note
The list of available protocols in the property dialog box is more extensive than in the wizard. You can specify a different port for the local computer and remote computer and specify ICMP properties.
