Protecting custom plug-ins

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

After creating or obtaining custom plug-ins for use with your Windows Media server, you should protect them from tampering by placing them in a protected directory. After a custom or third-party plug-in has been installed and registered, it could be overwritten or modified in ways that could render it ineffective or malicious to the server. Place the plug-ins in a directory that denies Write permissions to unauthorized users. Ensure that Windows Media Services has Read permissions to the directory that contains the plug-ins or they cannot be used.
