Configure a direct serial connection

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To configure a direct serial connection

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Phone and Modem Options, click the Modems tab, and then click Add.

  3. In the Add Hardware wizard, select the Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list check box, and then click Next.

  4. In Manufacturer, click Standard Modem Types.

  5. In Models, click Communications cable between two computers, and then click Next.

  6. Follow the remaining instructions in the Install New Modem wizard.

Notes

  • To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

  • A null modem must be configured on both the client and the server.
