Process for Designing the Active Directory Logical Structure

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To design the Active Directory logical structure, a design team must first identify the requirements of the organization, and, based on this information, decide where to place the forest and domain boundaries. Then, the design team decides how to configure the DNS environment to meet the needs of the forest. Finally, the team identifies the organizational unit (OU) structure that is required in order to delegate management of resources in your organization.

Figure 2.1 shows the process for designing the logical structure.
