Other services for the branch office over the Internet

To maximize performance and minimize the amount of data that is sent over the connection, DHCP and name servers are installed on the branch office network. The branch office name servers are configured to replicate with the corporate name servers.

In this scenario, the DHCP service is used for automatic configuration of IP addresses and other information on client computers. A DHCP server is installed on the branch office network. For information about setting up a DHCP server, see DHCP Overview.

To access network resources by using NetBIOS or domain names, a WINS or DNS name server is installed. For more information, see WINS Overview and DNS Overview.
