Registry overview

In the Microsoft® Windows Server 2003 family, system configuration information is stored centrally in a hierarchical database called the registry. The registry replaces many of the .ini, .sys, and .com configuration files used in Windows for MS-DOS® and Microsoft LAN Manager.

For more information about managing the registry, see "Windows Server 2003 Family Registry Reference" at the Microsoft Windows Resource Kits Web site. For information about Windows Server 2003 support, see Support resources.
