Rebuilding the IIS NNTP Service

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1

You can rebuild the IIS NNTP service by using IIS Manager.

You can choose one of two rebuild types:

  • Standard. Rebuilds only group.lst files, based on the contents of the virtual directories. This is the faster of the two options.

  • Thorough. Rebuilds all internal files, such as .hsh and .lst files.

First run the standard rebuild. If the problem is not fixed when you run the standard rebuild, run a thorough rebuild.

Note

You must stop the NNTP service news server before you can rebuild it.

To rebuild the NNTP service by using IIS Manager

  1. In IIS Manager, click the local computer, right-click the NNTP virtual server, and then click Stop.

  2. Right-click the NNTP virtual server again, point to All Tasks, and then click Rebuild Server. If Rebuild Server is not available, then the server might still be running. Check to make sure that it is stopped.
