Conducting a Hardware Inventory

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

For each computer in your organization, document the following:

  • Location of the computer

  • Number of processors it has and the speed of each processor

  • Amount of RAM

  • Available disk space

  • Type of monitor

  • BIOS settings

  • Configurations for peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, and input devices

  • Driver version numbers and other software and firmware information

In addition, document every device that is connected to your network, including network adapters. Also note departmental and geographic differences in the types of hardware used within your organization.
