HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Telephony\Server

Data type Range Default value

REG_DWORD

0x0 | 0x1–0xFFFFFFFF

(None)

Description

Specifies whether High Security mode is enabled on a Telephony Server. In High Security mode, the Telephony Server will accept RPC connections only from remote clients connecting with RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY. Client connections that do not use RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY will be rejected. Enabling High Security mode enhances the security of the Telephony Server component.

Value Meaning

0x0

High Security mode is disabled.

0x1–0xFFFFFFFF (or not present in the registry)

High Security mode is enabled.

Change Method

You can change this entry only by editing the registry.

Activation Method

You must stop and restart the Telephony service on the Telephony Server to make changes to this entry effective.

Note

  • Starting with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, the telephony clients connect to a remote Telephony Server with RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY. Clients using earlier Windows operating systems do not use RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY and will fail to connect to a Windows Server 2003 Telephony Server in High Security Mode, which is enabled by default. Disabling High Security mode on the Telephony Server ensures that clients running earlier versions of Windows can connect to the server.

Caution

Setting the value of this entry to 0x0 disables High Security mode on the Telephony Server, which compromises the security of the Telephony Server by allowing connections from clients that do not use RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY (the RPC parameters for these connections are not encrypted).
