Adding items to the Favorites list

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

Adding items to the Favorites list

Use the Favorites list to create shortcuts to items in the console tree and to taskpad views. Then access these items from the Favorites menu.

Note: The Favorites tab in the Console scope pane has been removed in MMC 2.0 but is present in MMC 1.2.

For more information about creating the Favorites list, see Add an item to the Favorites list in an MMC console and Organize the Favorites list in an MMC console.

Configuring console options

Use the Options dialog box, available from the File menu, to choose an icon for, change the title of, and choose the default mode for a console.

Icons are available from many sources including the Shell32.dll file, located in the systemroot\system32 folder.

When changing the title of a console, keep in mind that, by default, as you click items in the console tree, the title bar displays the path to the selected item. But if you change the title of a console, the title bar will not display this path. However, if you delete the title, the default behavior is restored.

When considering which mode to set as the default for a console, remember that if you use one of the user modes, you can open the console at any time by using the Author or Run As commands--you do not need to use author mode for most management tasks.
