Enable a supporting server

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To enable a supporting server

  1. Open Computer Management.

  2. In the console tree, click Services and Applications.

    Where?

    • Computer Management/Services and Applications
  3. In the details pane, right-click Message Queuing, and then click Properties.

  4. On the Server Security tab, clear the selection Disable dependent client support to prevent this computer acting as a supporting server for dependent clients, and then click OK.

Important

  • Before enabling a supporting server, you must enable network access for Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC). For instructions, see Enable network DTC access

Notes

  • To open Computer Management, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

  • For best security practice, only turn on this feature if it is required.

  • Following installation, dependent client support is disabled by default for Message Queuing computers.

  • To reset server security settings on this tab to the default settings following installation, click Restore Defaults.

  • Dependent clients cannot be installed on computers in workgroup mode or on 64-bit computers.

  • New Windows Server 2003 family Message Queuing features, such as HTTP transport, Message Queuing Triggers, and sending messages to multiple destinations, are not available to dependent clients. Thus, distribution lists, multiple-element format names, and multicast messaging are not supported for dependent clients.

  • Dependent clients will no longer be supported in future versions of Message Queuing.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
