Communicator Mobile for Java is a solution for a broad range of mobile devices that provides Communicator-like functionality. This functionality includes Contact list, presence, IM, corporate directory search, incoming and outgoing circuit voice call control, and voice mail and messaging. Communicator Mobile for Java primarily addresses the feature phone and Blackberry segments, which comprise more than 60% of all phones.

Communicator Mobile for Java consists of client and server components. The client component can be downloaded over the air, and is a small, lightweight application with easy navigation and is optimized for mobility scenarios.

Communicator Mobile for Java server components are installed with the 2007 R2 version of Office Communicator Web Access server. Communicator Web Access server enables users to access the instant messaging, presence, and conferencing features in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 through a Web browser without installing a software desktop client or connecting through a VPN. This server provides mobile-optimized gateway functions to connect Communicator Mobile for Java clients to Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
