Step 4. Plan Your Deployment of Monitoring Server (2007 R2 Beta)

This topic describes the Monitoring Server deployment process, including the permissions required in each step of deployment and the documentation you can use during deployment.

Before you deploy Monitoring Server, you need to verify that your system infrastructure and the server on which you will install Monitoring Server meet the requirements that are described in Step 3. Identify the Technical Requirements for Deploying Monitoring Server. When the environment is ready, you install the Monitoring Server files, configure a certificate on the server, start the services, and associate the Monitoring Server with the servers that it will monitor. Table 1 provides an overview of the required steps. Deploying Monitoring Server provides detailed instructions.

Install the following:

  • Message Queuing on the server that will be the Monitoring Server.
  • Message Queuing on every Front End server and Standard Edition server that will have data collected by Monitoring Server.
  • SQL Server on the server that will store the Monitoring Server database.
  • Optionally, install SQL Server Reporting Services on the server that will store the Monitoring Server database.

Domain Admins group (to install Message Queuing with Active Directory integration enabled)

Install Monitoring Server Prerequisites

Install and activate Monitoring Server.

  1. Install Monitoring Server files.
  2. Activate the Monitoring Server service.

Deploy Monitoring Server reports.

If you installed SQL Server Reporting Services on the server hosting the database server, you can deploy the Monitoring Server Report Pack to use a set of standard reports included with Monitoring Server.

Step 4: Deploy Monitoring Server Reports (Recommended)

Configure Monitoring Server associations.

Associate the new Monitoring Server with pools and servers.
