Redirect users' folders to the server

After you redirect users’ folders to the server, the users’ must log off client computers that are connected to the network to allow the folder redirection Group Policy to update on the client computers. Then when the users log on to a client computer that is connected to the network, the users’ redirected folders are uploaded to the server. If users have multiple client computers on the network, they must log off and then log on to each computer to allow the folder redirection Group Policy to update on each client computer. If users are working with offline files and folders, each time they log on to the server, the redirected files and folders are synchronized with the offline folders on their client computers.

Note

Users may need to repeat the log off and log on process up to three times to update the Group Policy, redirect the folders to the server, and synchronize the folders with the offline folders on their client computers.

To redirect folders for multiple user accounts to the server

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. Open the Folder Redirection Properties dialog box in one of the following ways:

    1. On the navigation bar, click Shared Folders and Web Sites, and then click Shared Folders.

      OR

    2. On the navigation bar, click the Users and Groups tab, and then click Users.

  3. In the Tasks pane, click Redirect folders for user accounts to the server. The Folder Redirection Properties dialog box opens.

  4. On the Folder Names tab, select the users’ folders that you want to redirect to the server.

Note

When the users’ Start menu is redirected to the server and users start system programs, such as opening a Command Prompt window from the Start menu, they may receive a security warning.

  1. On the User Accounts tab, select the check box for each user account with folders that you want to redirect to the server. You can also select Select all users or Deselect all users.

  2. Click OK.

  3. Request that users log off their client computers, and then log on to update the Group Policy.
Users may need to log off and log on to their client computers as many as three times to update the Group Policy, redirect the folders to the server, and synchronize the folders with the offline folders on their client computers.

To redirect folders for one user account to the server

  1. Open the Windows SBS Console.

  2. On the navigation bar, click the Users and Groups tab, and then click Users.

  3. Right-click a user account, and then click Properties.

  4. In the User Properties dialog box, click the Folders tab, and then select the Enable folder redirection to the server check box.
You can also set quotas in the User Properties dialog box.

  1. Click OK.
